It includes estimates of population counts broken down by major racial and ethnic categories, such as White, Black or African American, Asian, and Hispanic or Latino origin. The American Community Survey (ACS) 1 Year and 5‑Year estimates for Houston, TX provides a breakdown of the city’s residents by race and ethnicity, such as White, Black or African American, Asian, and Hispanic or Latino origin. The ACS 5 Year estimates are based on surveys collected over a five year period, which produces more reliable statistics for smaller towns and neighborhoods due to a larger sample size. Use 5 Year Estimates for: Small geographic areas (tracts, block groups, neighborhoods), trend analysis when annual data is unavailable, and/or planning and policy decisions requiring higher reliability. Use 1 Year Estimates for: Large geographic areas (populations of 65,000 or more), more current data for cities, counties, and states, and/or trend analysis of annual data.
